This is a photograph of the medieval fortification of Donauwörth, of which a lot is still standing. In front of these city walls lay the more modern contemporary walls, the backside of them approximately beginning on the position were the photograph was taken. Like in most towns of Europe the majority of those have been transformed into a park and road.
Though Donauwörth was certainly not a first rate fortress, the combination of these fortifications would have cost any attacker a lot time and casualties if he lacked siege guns. Though Du Bordet was perhaps not aware that Marlborough lacked these, his unneccesary speady evacuation of the city gave Marlborough a big advantage.
