Louis XIV above the entrance of the Hotel des Invalides

This is Louis XIV on horseback above the entrance of the Hotel des Invalides. Les Invalides was an institute Louis founded for soldiers wounded in his wars. The institute was of course not pure charity alone. It gave soldiers the assurance that if they had served for a somewhat longer time in his armies and got wounded they would not land on the streets. The nice thing for historians is that the institute kept records of the men that got in.
